so quick story.

we shot a music video/ theatrical trailer for the new movie 2012 featuring adam lambert from american idol fame.

long story short the producer asked me to do the conform as a favor.

because...

we shot the video with b21 on the 4.5k rc42 settings and none of the cc tools in the high end post houses can natively bring those files in yet.

so it was up to little ol me to do the transcoded dpx files...

i started to do it in redrushes...but then thought...hummm maybe monkey extract is up to speed...and sure enough they had put out a new version in the last few days and it seems to be compatible with b21.

so i set up the transcode render..and it was done in 20 minutes for a 2 1/2 minute piece at 1920 x 1080 dpx scaled to fit width...the trailer in the theatres will be 2:35 and so us shooting 2:33 got us very close.

i was blown away at how easy it was and how perfectly it worked. i brought the drive to new hat ( a cc house in santa monica) and the files loaded in within minutes and pulled up in baselight minutes later and they were grading...awesome!

the director wayne isham was stoked!!!

thank you monkey extract you saved my ass!

i'm also wondering on all your settings. full debayer? with or without rocket card? system specs? etc. etc. 20 minutes for that amount of time seems very impressive indeed.

fully debayer
8 core 2.8 ghz 10g ram (a generation old now)
no rocket
2.5 minutes of content in 18 minutes. spit out 7.9 megs dpx files for a total of 28 gigs.
