  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Monitoring?

Hopefully they haven't forgotten about the pogo pins on the Hydrogen phone ;) That would be a great option for those of us who bought that, to have a small bracket designed to hold the Hydrogen to the Komodo with the pins as interface.

Last it was mentioned, there will be a cradle that uses the camera pogo pins for a universal phone interface via USB-C. The dedicated Hydrogen pogo interface cradle was abandoned when the Hydrogen project ended.

What about Komodo's 4K SDI Output and 3G SDI monitors - can you throttle SDI output resolution of the Komodo to 1080p?

Wondering because the SmallHD Focus SDI has 3G/HD-SDI only (for a 1280x720p panel), same with the Atomos Shinobi and actually most - even higher end - monitors (that aren't monitor/recorders) only offer 3G/HD-SDI. Transvideo Starlite HD, TVLogic VFM-055A & F-5A - 3G SDI only?

Just in case you didn't watch the whole interview , at around 5 hours and 40 minutes, as they go through the menu, you can see that you can choose between several SDI output resolutions. So I guess it's safe to say that if you set the SDI out to SDI 2k, it should work with "older" 3G-SDI monitors. Surprisingly, I was watching the whole interview marathon at once (admittedly, I paused a couple of times for a minute or so), even if there was not so much news for me, because I've been reading the Komodo thread/forum since its birth over a year ago, it still made me watching the whole interview. BTW it was a really good roundup for those who haven't read all pages yet and want to get actual information. Thanks to all participants!

Wake me up when there's a 7" monitor that can decode a 6G UHD signal and instantly switch from full-screen (could be 1920x1080) to 2:1 center crop at the touch of a button.

Well, look no further than the Shogun 7... even has 2:1 at the touch of a button.
Albeit, not a hard button, but you can touch it straight from the home screen :)

SMALL HD Focus 5 or 502 bright???

SMALL HD Focus 5 or 502 bright???

I have only seen people using the focus 5 with the Komodo... But why hasn't anyone thought about the 502 bright? It is brighter and its 1080P vs 720P... Yes, I know its more expensive but why is everyone going with the cheapest 5inch monitor?

Those who have the camera already are probably just using what they have. Or if they have to buy something, better to go on the cheaper side for now and see what other options come along.

Anyone here have any experience with the Atomos Shinobi SDI? Seems like a pretty capable on camera display for the price.

Does anyone offer a local dimming on-camera display that doesn't have a built in recorder? I know Atomos Shogun7 uses local dimming but don't really have much interest in onboard recorder. I guess any local dimming display will be a little bulkier than others though huh.

The small had focus monitors are inexpensive and great, but I’m honestly going to end up attaching a phone mount the the gdu monitor mount and try to monitor off my phone depending on the latency.

Yes, planning on getting one for the Komodo. I think the panel is perhaps not up to the quality of let's say TVLogic or Flanders, but it's better than most monitors I've seen including some SmallHD. It's bright and extremely lightweight.

I rented the ninja for a shoot a while back and I wonder how the Shinto I would stack up as an on camera monitor.

Sorry if I missed it, but will that pogo connector be employed for an integrated monitoring solution?

I believe power limitations make it impossible to have a cableless monitor like the DSMC2s.

I do wonder though if there is potential for a self-powered monitor that has a pogo/data mount specifically for the Komodo for cableless monitoring.
