Yesterday I was having an issue with a Dragon which after boot up would show a black and white screen split vertically down the middle. For the longest time I was trying to figure out what was going on. I found that after unplugging the monitor cable and plugging it back in, the screen would return to normal and I could operate the camera. I thought it was the cable but experienced the same issue with 3 cables, one of which was brand new.

Has anyone experienced this before and have an idea what may be causing it? The lemo connector on the monitor looks flawless and is still very securely fastened with no wiggle. It has been a tough issue for us since we're trying to shoot underwater and it costs too much time take the camera out of the housing just to unplug the monitor cable and reconnect it.

hi peter.

have you re-installed the latest firmware? often, that takes care of peripheral/module issues like what you're describing, especially on older items. perhaps give that a shot.

this is the monitor trying to find its hertz frequency. If it sticks in that split half black and half white screen it can't find it's frequency. It could be a problem with the monitor, have you tried using a new firmware ?

I've had this same issue for a year or two now. It's definitely the monitor but not sure how to fix it.

The Black/White split screen happens to me occasionally. Sometimes I get an all white screen. Usually after I shutdown and reboot, it's fine. It happens very occasionally so I simply disregard it. I don't worry much about it but if you're does it consistently (like a few times consecutively) I'd definitely contact Red.

I would be very surprised if that was the reason Tom, but never say never. Like i said it's the monitor searching for it's frequency - 50/60Hz. When it cant find it it stays split black and white. i would say it;s an issue if it happens consistently. then the only option would be to take it in for evaluation.

Try setting a button that forces the monitor to refresh itself and blink for a second, like when you go from recording to playback, or to clean-screen/no UI mode. That can allow the monitor to sort of re-sync itself, like it does when you unplug/re-plug the cable or power up/down. It might not always work at first, or all the time, but it can be a quick and easy solution.
