  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Module Ship Dates....

Is it possible to get a price for the quad charger? I'd love to order two at the end of November....just want to make sure I save accordingly!

...
Nikon Mount - Awaiting next revision. Still in Beta testing. Next batch November, full production in December.
...

So Jarred, can you tell us how iris is controlled on this version? There was mention of a dumb Nikon mount option by you or Jim a couple of months ago. Or is this the smart version with an iris motor that I assume would allow smooth programmed ramping.

This is the proper smart mount.

Has the Allstar mount (for Nikon on Epic) been submitted for approval? This could be a least expense stopgap until the smart mount comes out.

not yet but would love to... I always dig their stuff.

Thats called Tax planning. Im hoping to get my scarlet monies out to RED before Dec 31, 2011. :)

I think the point he is making is that it could be a little more complex than that. Simply sending the money may not be sufficient to qualify for the deduction in this year. :sifone:

Might want to consult with your CPA...when you pay is irrelevant, it's when the gear is first put into service that matters

Maybe for the deduction on the purchase, but it will definitely keep you from paying taxes on money that could be considered profit for the year.

Jared, my bomb squad rep, Chad, thanks you for this thread. Fewer emails asking questions he can't answer. It's funny getting a camera in waves, but I embrace the modular concept. Hopefully never have to do this staged acquisition again, because we'll keep using lots of the modules we're now waiting for.

But then again, you guys will probably invent something else so incredible everyone will want it right away. Don't stop.

Uh - I think you'll have to explain exactly how those things differ. The tax deduction, when available, is what "keeps you from paying taxes..." Have I missed your point?

yea, like I said, I would talk to a professional. This is probably for another thread, but just because you write a check it doesn't mean its a deduction. Expenses are expensed, but assets are depreciated and they are treated very differently. You can accelerate this depreciation but its still based on the date the asset was placed in service not the date you spent the money.

Its pretty fucked up and complicated, which is why we have CPA's.

What Greg said. All I know is if the money is in my RED account instead of my bank account then that's a PP&E expense that comes off my bottom line, which means I'm not paying taxes on it. Depreciation expense would be separate from that.

Yeah, what Greg said.

Edit: Also what Jarred said :)
