What type of connection does the HBA use? It looks like a Mini SAS. Anyway to make this box work with a card like the ATTO R380 (future plans)? Would love to not have to use another card inside the Mac Pro.

It uses the PCI-Express standard. They do look like Mini-SAS but they are not. The internal part of the connector is much longer and it is alo wider. The one installed on the Maxx Digital Mobile is a 4x cable. Since i believe it is a standard, you can actually put any card in the Mobile Enclosure.

Cheers

Yes it will work with other cards ,however those cards must be Mac friendly as in they must have drivers available to work with the Mac Book Pro. We are currently talking with ATTO to make sure things work well. We have a 3 slot version which is called Mobile rocket Raid and plan to use ATTO to raid the 8 SSD drives inside.
