Hawai'i is a huge part of MMA (mixed martial arts) and I'm happy to say, all MMAHawai'i events/programming will be shot on RED...

*1st fight 15NOV08*
(this is footage I want to see projected...)

Just thinking Shawn - 3k/60 fps would seriously rock for the action sequences!

Aloha Gibby!
Thanks for the tip - question for you though. I will be rolling one camera at 96fps, 2K... The other five cameras I had planned on either 4KHD or 2K.

Why 60fps?

(Yes, is being broadcast on tv, DVD's, web.)

A lot of the high action sequences I've shot that were destined for television were shot in 3k/60 fps. When played back on a 24p timeline its a nice slo-mo. The over-saturated chroma of 3k, when down-rezzed to 2k (and a 1080 finish) IMO looks significantly better than native shot 2k footage. True, you can get above 60 fps in 2k, but 2k is only half the resolution of 3k, thus the down-rez from 3k looks better. The highest frame rate you can get in 4k is 30 fps, which IMO frankly doesn't look as good for high action subjects as 60 fps. Beyond frame rates, I also like a faster shutter speeds if I know the footage will be played back in slo-mo - it smoothes out the slo-mos somewhat.

Sounds like fun!

Mahaloz again Gibby.

I'll do a few tests. Want a more cinematic feel than typical sports though. Plus, I will shoot 96fps - 60's not enough for what we're doing...
