So we've taken the plunge and bought an LTO, eventually deciding to go for mTape and Prerollpost (since we already have imagine software as part of our on-set strategy).

There's a really odd problem though: once formatted and mounted the drive does not appear on the desktop or in the finder as it should. Everything appears to be working fine, but we've no way of verifying the files to check that they're actually on there. Has anyone else encountered similar problems? Support for Imagine products seems to be scant.

Many thanks

The unit seems great, William, and Imagine's software is generally pretty good. I'm pretty sure this is something to do with OS mounting permissions or something like that.

So after a bit more messing around I've made a bit of progress. I created a directory on the desktop and made that the location for the LTO. The drive mounted fine and appeared as it should. I then copied some data across and it all worked as it should. When I unmounted the tape, the directory went back to being a directory. So I think it's some kind of mounting or permissions issue because the default location /tmp/ltfs0 doesn't work at all.

Perhaps the likes of Jeff will be able to explain it.

I got to the root of the problem - to see it on the desktop you need to have server visibility turned on in your finder preferences. Imagine support, also pointed out that it's found under computer in the finder window. The Unit is working great now. It's built like a tank.

Right, I'm now off to figure out why Rocket X isn't showing up in my Sonnet Echo 3 box.

Let us know how you like it. I'm going back to a PC and will likely pick up an HP Ultrium 3650 LTO-6.
