  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mixing footage with Sony Z1

You should also consider trying to improve the z1 footate. do this: shoot slightly underexposed. the use this workflow: use HDMI deck to play back footage convert to HDSDI with AJA box digitize into computer through HDSDi card digitize in highest qualityh 1080 Prorez or Panasonic format on timeline.... presto betterz1U footage... this is noticably better!!! so 2k red footage will be a closer match. biggest problem will be different ways Sony/Red handle reds... kinda ironic in a tecchy wierd way....

I guess the result might look visually more pleasing, but technically firewire capture is better - it's a direct 100% lossless copy of the data in the tape, while HDMI route will include format conversions and recompression. Those will always result in loss of data, and thus degrade the technical quality of the footage. Yes, always, without exceptions.

This said, if it looks good, it's good.
