48 fps wich is going to be an standard of work in 3D quite soon makes me think about what is going to be the output from the Epic ... with the Mistika Live (I am the colaborator in the development and proud owner of 2 Mistika Live ) we are using the flags of valid frames from the redone but at 48 fps what will be the way of working with that? will RED mark all the valid frames or what will be the aproach.
I don´t think getting 48 fps is so important at this point for daylies or for editorial but it will be great to be ready for the future.
I enjoy using my mistika Live on set, because I get stereography corrected and Color corrected Daylies, ready for editorial as soon as the shooting is over and I can give the ok to the shoot, check that the croma is fine and if the background is designed encrust it, make the corrections, give the acourate frame with the zoom in that causes the posproduction touchs and speed up the preparation of the shoot (when changing lenses or at the start of the day) and take it to our Mistika Posproduction and load all the adjustments done on the set for speeding up the stereography corrections. All with a couple of frames of delay and in a fast moving box with all terrain wheels. Pure 3D Hapinnes. Is been months of work and now 48 fps ... grrrr it will make it much easyer for the peoples brain and will aloud as to move much more the camera but more WORKKKKK to put it tuned for 48!!!!! :beatdeadhorse5:
I will be really pleased if somebody from RED will jump in.

We are already supporting 48fps TC (.:.:.: notation) as well as being able to sync to 24fps TC (23.976 also).

Hi Deanan,
sorry to asault you and thanks for answering. I have been for 5 years DIT in Europe and Latin America (before I worked in the camera crew) and I have been for the last year preparing my self for 3D and working helping in the developement of the Mistika Live. I don´t think I ever introduced myself so i thought telling a little of my background will make it more natural, and I was in reduser since quite the beginin is just that I am not smart enought as to have something interesting to say and know how bussy you guys are.
Since my english specially the wrighting is horrible I will apreciate if you clarify my ideas:
1 the epic already works with 48 fps TC.
2 it can syncronise between epic cameras at that speed for L and R. (with no external sync generator? or you will steel recomend one, if so what will that be for 48 fps or 72 fps?)

And what I think I didn´t understand, I am sorry because is probably my fault, is that I was asking what will be the signal coming from the epic output , I can guess that will be 1.5 HDSDI 1080p , 50//60 Hz but i don´t know if is actually able to send the 48 fps throght that signal or it will send a 24 fps valid frames (lovely flags)
I hope I explained myself clear instead of confusing you more, thanks for the patience.
I could check really easily with the 2 camera in my hands but that will have to wait some months I guess. The pity of leaving in Europe in stead of EEUU ...
Thanks for youre time.

No problem :)
1. yes on generating 48fps tc from 24
2. yes on no sync generator for shutter sync although one is recommended if you need monitor genlock for downstream devices like a SIP.

Epic is 1.5/3G capable.
Monitor outputs up to 60 and 2k.

Can you talk about this a bit more...I was assuming that I'd lock the two Epic in some sort of Master/Slave mode which would also transfer genlock shutter info to the 2nd...Slave camera. If we wanted to monitor these feeds through a transvideo or other device mux'ng the two feeds, I was assuming I could lock from the source HDSDI or perhaps a genlock 'out' out've the camera. Are you saying I'll have to lock cameras and the monitor feed from an external unit such as an AJA Gen or lockit box.
Sorry man, I'm still waiting for a bunch of tech specs on the Epic to get released, especially in this new 'one cable' master/slave mode... and I was only assuming this without clarification.....
Cheers,
