  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Missing the S35.

I believe it is a render. ...just trying to illustrate the diff in size to those who weren't aware. :-)

Like you said, those are old renders. I think both of the cameras are bigger now, but the ratio of Epic to Scarlet is probably about the same. Anyway, I'm anxious to get a Scarlet in my hands, but I think it would be great for documentary work.

Stating the obvious here but I don't think these cameras will be good for docs. Generally you need hours of power and storage.

I'm not sure why people are saying the Scarlet is almost the same size as the Epic. The interchangeable/cinema at least is far smaller to my eyes.

I am wondering if RED might do a BOMB EVF package to slightly ease the pain of buying the EVF seperately.

And also wondering if there are good reasonably priced zoom options for the Cinema.

Isn't the difference between an Epic body and a Scarlet body like 1 cm or something?

I'd say it's more than "1 cm". The Scarlet brain is the same width/height as the REDmote (and the REDmote Pro).

The EPIC brain is wider but still only by a slight margin...

After all this talk, I'm wondering how I can even be discussing along the lines that the DSMC might be too big? I guess the iPhone4 already filled the market for size. That must have been the Scarlet 1.0 killa...

I could be all wet here, but while I think there is some difference in size and weight between EPIC and Scarlet, in the terms expressed by the OP in relation to how they would “look” when out on the street, I really don’t think there will be a difference. As some have already said we’re not talking about the difference between the RED One and EPIC here. I suspect there will be many instances where at a glance the question in one’s mind will be “is that a Scarlet or an EPIC he’s holding?”

Really, in terms of walking around incognito with these things it’s the design more than the size that will draw attention. They look really cool, not just like some other everyday camera. I mean if you pull one of these out on the street you are going to get some looks and maybe even questions. And I’m not trying to imply that you won’t be able to slip into a crowd with these things, just that the design will be more of a factor than the size in terms of how much you stand out. That’s my take anyway.

I had an epic with a Canon 24/70mm in my hand a couple of month ago in Saigon when Ted was here, It 's feel and weight like a Mamiya RZ with the handle, so maybe the Scarlet is close in dimension to an Hasselblad?
(I updated my status with my full name few weeks ago, but it doesn't seem to work, so my full name is Pier Laurenza, sorry for that)
