Missing serial number...

my serial number came off too... also preproduction units (first 25) were also without serial numbers on the body.
they came on the side module. think mark P also had it on side and nelson #27.

on an earlier Red One... if they added an SSD module, that would make sense to not see a serial number.

I say no way its stolen gear. just over priced :P

No my friend is thinking to buy it.

That's how it came to my attention.

At this point it seems this thread has turned into a story of sorts. It would be interesting to know how this particular camera ended up where it is right now. It could make an interesting short I'm sure. I imagine some meaningful themes could be involved. Also I can imagine incorporating some POV shots from the protagonist - the homeless RED....

just over priced :P

Based on the current market for sure but in real terms it's still bueno. The comfort level of doing business with someone does have an effect on the value of something IMHO.

My take on 're-certify' - the guy may be somewhat confused, but possibly the camera at some point changed hands without going through the formal ownership transfer process with RDC, so the current owner may be the legal owner but not the *registered* owner, and cannot therefore initiate a formal RDC ownership transfer?

Not sure how RDC handle this kind of situation, which I'm sure must have come up before? Anyone from RDC chime in?

Mike

My most charitable guess is that this guy is acting as an agent for the seller. If you have an expensive item to eBay, but you have no rating what do you do? You find someone else to front for you and cut them in.

It seems unlikely that an experienced merchant would come to own an expensive item like a R1 to re-sell and only have a vague understanding of Red's transfer of ownership policies. He knows enough to caution would-be buyers, so he knows more than he is telling. This listing has a definite stank on it. I wouldn't go near it myself.

Also interested...

Additionally, the basis that the seller here is not a camera user is good enough reason to seriously question the price. I'm very hesitant to try and run down the value of this very valuable equipment. One exception would be if it was inherited from a deceased person. I did notice that the seller has begun to set up a very dubious looking rental site:

http://25bits.com/equipment.html

Kinda sets off alarms in my head anyway.

I really enjoyed this line:
"Footage that comes out is simply splendid! "

Yah sure, point and shoot, right?!

Apologies for veering into comedy on this thread.

Just spoke to the person and he told me that I can stop by to see it in person.
He sounded like russian to me, be very careful, it's a huge $$$.
I will buy only in person to person at the price, that I have to save for more than 2+ yrs.
just my2cent

It also says there is a "significant discount if paying in cash" and that you should contact him directly if this is the case.

I wonder how many hours it has on it?

Could you be so kind and ask him for the PIN number again.
Or even better when you will be there just power on the camera and write down the number.
I think he made a mistake while reading it to me over the phone.

And don't go there with cash.
Also don't invite anybody to your home to sale or to buy any equipment if you do not have two friends and minimum one gun at home. I have seen reports here on this forum in last 4 years that people were robbed at gun point and cash or equipment stolen while trying to do transaction at home.

It has 121 hours.

This really doesn't sound worth the risk guys!

I won't go to see it at all, he sounds scary to me.
Your observation is very helpful for buying/selling equipment.
Thank you for that.

Yah, about a quarter of my best friends are Russian. Its fun to play up the scary sometimes. This is still an unsolved mystery though.
