  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Misleading Camera Upgrade Emails

I'm very happy that RED is generous enough to offer customers camera upgrade path.

I've participated in every upgrade cycle since Red One in 2009 except for this latest one and it's not because I didn't want to.

This is part of the email that's been sent out to DSMC2 owners:

This will be the final opportunity for RED ONE, SCARLET MYSTERIUM-X, EPIC MYSTERIUM-X, SCARLET DRAGON, and EPIC DRAGON camera owners to move to the DSMC2 line via an upgrade.

and second email:

In short, this program allows existing DSMC1 camera owners to upgrade to the new DSMC2 system at a discounted price. Depending on the camera that you currently own, you could be saving up to $15,000!

Nowhere in the email does it say that the offer for the DSMC2 owners expires.

I don't have the time to hang out on this forum as much as I used to so I rely on these emails to keep me informed. I'm sure many other owners do too.



I've sent an email to a rep BEFORE the deadline, asking about whether the offer also ends for the Weapon Mg owners and I've never got a reply.

So I guess I'm sitting this one out despite of being willing to upgrade. Omitting such an important detail is really not good for customers or Red.

I feel your pain, but I have to say, I got multiple emails and phone calls to make sure I knew about the upgrade path and the cutoff date.
 
Red said somewhere in some thread (i read it myself) that there would be more time for magnesium owners

Strange, they have been very responsive to my calls and emails during the upgrade process. Perhaps communication is a two party engagement . . .

Multiple people have responded now, with the same thing. The Weapon MG is a DSMC2 system and the announcement was for DSMC1 cameras.
 
while no "upgrade" is currently offered on red.com i assure you they will honor all DSMC2 owners with options. red stands by their programs and always has, and always provides me good service. i am sure a option will exist for you as the DSMC2 program starts.

also resale values tend to be quite competitive with upgrades too. lately I'm now debating stoping upgrades altogether in terms of simply buying the new package outright and have both options available? i mean i only got like 5 grand trading in my epic for epic w anyway? all the DSMC1 parts are useless and unsellable basically. it might not be a bad idea to just buy a whole new package if you can monetize both? i always thought it was a bad idea personally but am starting to wonder if i won't try this going forward
 
I bailed on the cut off date, then resigned my contract with my client, got a call from the red rep - with a final warning and jumped on it then.. Was one of the best decisions I've ever made, but I thought I was SOL until my rep called and said "this is it dude."
 
I know you said you don't spend much time on reduser... My advice, make an effort to hangout here more often. Don't rely on RED marketing emails to keep you informed, I found them to be incredibly delayed.
This is the place to be if you want the group buy deals, upgrades, discounts and other inside info. Basically, ALL THINGS RED happen here.
