Is it possible to get into a basic shooting configuration with just the XL module pack( Dsmc2 ) a monitor and mini mag and lens ?

I.e can I bypass the base expander module and get into a super basic set up whilst I wait for the base X pander to ship ?

yes, but you need one of the red monitors to set the settings on the camera.

Through and app called FOOLCONTROL. It interfaces with the wifi in your camera and then gives you essentially all of the control you get on a touch screen, but instead you get them on your iPhone.

It's the cheapest for sure, but I wouldn't be comfortable having an iOS device as the only way to control the camera
