  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone ever run into this? Can't secure format in cam (the process just won't start, the touch button won't activate) or disk utility on computer. Card isn't recognized on computer at all, epic-w says media is not recognized. Card was working on previous shoot, not today.

Edit: other minimags work on the camera. Isolated to just this mag. Already sent support ticket to RED but not sure what their response times are on weekends.

Which version of the mags is this. I've been hearing the 1st version ie: 512gb had some issues.

480GB. Purchased in Jan 2017. We initially had some read issues when they first came out but they were fixed with a firmware patch. Haven't updated firmware since the last patch, and they've been working fine. This is the first time they've had issues not reading at all by computer or cam.

Already sent Support ticket to RED.

960GB card not mounting on computer or camera

I received a brand new(960GB) card just in time for a shoot, had a test day with the card, no issues. I secured formatted the card, powered down. Powered up to begin shooting the next day, died(unrecognizable) right there. I had card in epic-W before booting up so I am wondering if that had something to do with it. Firmware was V6.3.75 and I remember reading this:

"SIGNIFICANT CHANGES SINCE PREVIOUS BUILD V6.3.74

Added RED 480GB MINI-MAG support
Added RED 960GB MINI-MAG support"

So I made sure I was up to date with my firmware before recording or formatting. I had nothing important on the card which I feel very fortunate for... but this scares the crap out of me. I am contacting my rep now that I have done all the troubleshooting I can myself.

I tried different computer's with different OS's, different RED cameras. Nothing.

Please keep me updated on any info you may receive.
 
This just happened to me with a new Weapon Helium I received two weeks ago. A new 480gig mini mag was used on a few shoots in the past two weeks and this weekend it all of a sudden isn't recognized by the computer and the error message comes up on the camera format not recognized by this camera. Unable to format the card in camera. The correct screen comes up but the format button on the touch screen does nothing.
 
That message came up on my camera this morning so I shut it down and powered it back up but now the camera won't even turn on. The fans run for about 10 seconds nothing shows up on the monitor and then it turns off. Any ideas?

i have exactly same issue :(
 
Same here. Just popped up out when trying to re-upgrade to firmware 7.0.3 since I was having monitor issues. Now none of my mags will mount, no option to format. Mac reads them fine. What the heck?!
 
We had the same issue a few times.

What is solving them now is to boot the camera with them on. The Brain will force the mag to be read (sometimes it takes a couple boots), and once is mounted a SECURE FORMAT should make the issue go away.

So far i believe its a problem caused by DITs and Users that format the camera improperly or that erase data from a computer , but not sure about it to be the root of the problem.
 
This is an issue that they still need fix, I sent many times the log file bu they didn’t find anything!
I never format in thr computer but always in camera and sometimes when I put the mag in it doesn’t read! I need to try few times to make it work! Is reaaaaaly frustrating!! I don’t understand why they can’t fix this issue which in set is NOT nice when happen!
 
Had same problem with 960 TB mags, tried everything on 2 Heliums Finally was recommended by RED support to upgrade to new FW 7.0.3 - problem fixed.
