I think the whole thing is confusing.
"Panchro/i" is different from "Speed Panchro" but yes, slightly confusing, especially for producers dealing with owner-operators and not rental houses that may have both types.
Now it's just as bad, or worse. "Mini-S4s"? Really? I can hear the questions now: Are they better or worse? Are they the same? Why are they "mini"? Are your "old" S4s not as good?
It still requires explanation. And it is worse for S4 owners than it is for Panchro/i owners. Now S4 owners have to do explaining, and Panchro/i owners get an upgrade.
Why not just lower the price on "real" S4s? Heh heh. No need to answer...
Cheers,
Harry
I think it solves more questions than it raises.
These lenses ARE mini-S4's but a stop slower and with less focal length choices. That is really all anyone needs to know, if they are familiar with S4's. How does this effect S4 owners? I don't think it does, but perhaps in places where Mini-S4 prices are deflated, like LA, but then again, S4 prices are being raised at rental houses in LA, so I guess the demand is there for S4's. I mean, just a year ago a set of S4's was 700. Now almost any rental house has them for 900. I guess things are going well for those blokes!
