Mini-Mag Offload Speeds

Hello,

Transfers from my Mini-Mag reader seem to be really slow. This is true both through my Mac Pro trashcan, and through my MacBook Air, whether I drag files with the finder or use ShotPut Pro. I have both an Epic-W and an Epic MX, and the files from the MX (1.8-inch mags) copy a lot faster, even when comparing gigabytes to gigabytes. When you take into account the bigger size of the 8K files from the W, of course it's that much slower.

Is this what everybody is experiencing? Or did I just happen to get a slow reader?

Can you give us a rough time estimate and a file size?

i.e. 2 minutes to transfer a 10GB R3D

I can run 800-900 MB/s total when offloading two 512 GB mags over thunderbolt using the G-Tech reader.

Mine 350MB/s, USB 3.0 offloading to SSD drive.

G-Tech EV 2-bay dock (TB2 version) connected to an iMac Pro via TB3-TB2 adapter.

Transfer out 2 mags at once over TB3 to a Qnap 1282-T3 NAS.

G-Tech has been promising a TB3 native version of the dock for awhile now.

OK, I tracked down my problem--it's the cable. I used a different cable and was able to transfer 428 GB in a little over 19 minutes, for a rate of about 22.22 GB per minute, which is fine for my purposes. With the cable I was previously using, that same folder was going to take around 3 hours. The slow cable is a random one I bought from B&H. It's about five feet long, so I don't know if that has something to do with it.

wanna see speed increases....Plug in the reader, not just power from usb! Theres a big difference!

I get 519 Mb/sec offloading 480Gb USB 3.1 RED mag to raid, and I use a short Thunderbolt 3 cable instead of the supplied USB-C cable.
