Yesterday we had an awesome shoot in Joshua Tree filming a Aventador SV.. all was going smoothly until we tried to dump one of the MINI-MAGS, before ejecting we showed the client a shot from earlier in the day that he was so excited to see. Watched a few other clips in the process as well. After ejecting and trying to dump the card NONE of the footage we just shot and even reviewed was on it. There were only clips from the day before. We ran REDUNDEAD but all it recovered were the clips that were already on the card.

Anyone have any possible insight to what may have happened? And even more imporatant a way of getting any of that footage back? I've had a corrupt card in the past but the whole card went corrupt not just a section of it.

Thanks in advance and enjoy a screengrab from what survived.

So strange. So, you reviewed footage in-camera with the card, and then ejected and tried to transfer and the files were gone? And you're sure it was the correct card you put in the reader? What camera, and firmware? Mac, or PC? How was the card formatted? UDF, or Exfat? R3D format or ProRes?

Yes, exactly that. Stange it is. 100% correct card as it went from being watched to directly into the reader.

did you format the card yet, that seems really strange, I have had files not copy over, or sometimes when we are shooting Sw and EW only one will copy into FCPX if they have similar names which is a pain. I would put the card into computer and try to view via REDCX not an NLE

no didnt format that card, or any of the others. I have also done that as well.. even put the card back into the camera, with the same result

Did you try it back again in the camera? Worst case maybe if they popup playback out to SDI to external recorder at least in 1080p

EDIT: sorry didn't read that you put it back in camera. Sucks. Sorry you are dealing with this.

A friend of mine with a Raven just experienced this, someone who is VERY camera tech/computer savvy and tried many fixes with no luck.

He recovered all his missing files with RED Undead but said the process wasn't straightforward. Was about to send his card to RED, that might
be your best option

If your looking at this via mac, can you turn on hidden files via the terminal. I wonder if the files are somehow there, and they are just hidden by your browser? I've seen some weird naming conventions on drives throw off being able to view the files, but they were there, just hidden. Also, when you put the card back in, does it say the space is now available? To me, sounds like you accidentally formatted it somehow..

I have the same disappear file issue too, showed client on camera, went to copy to computer poof no files. never formatted anything in camera..... does anyone have an answer to this mystery or a solution?

Hey Guys,

I had this happen to me a couple weeks ago. I was shooting with a UDF formatted mini mag doing R3D+Prores and a MacBook pro would mount the mag, but no files were visible. Upon putting it back into the camera, we could still play back all the footage. We tried a bunch of different things and had Red UK and Red LA on the phone throughout the day, but couldn't get the MBP to download the clips. Back at the hotel that night, my MSI laptop with Paragon HFS+ downloaded all the footage perfectly fine and then the MBP could read the footage from the hard drive. All of the other mags worked fine with MBP and after that one day, I haven't had the issue again. So, my suggestion is try a PC. Macs seem to be a little behind the curve these days.
