  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mini BNC Breakout Panel

FWIW there isn't a lot of real estate on the back of the RedOne and its being pretty well utilized already. I also think it might be far too easy to bump a control button or the joystick when patching BNCs on the back since you have to push in to release a BNC.

It is easy to criticize RED for not making a perfect camera, the reality is that every camera design has issues - don't even get me started on the HVX.

Let's keep the feedback positive. They really do want to know what we think, which is fantastic - let's not equate more vociferous language with greater response from RED. IMHO they are much more inclined to listen to specific design ideas phrased with due respect.

sorry - couldn't resist. :alien: :)

looks very nice! Are the BNCs now the first thing that hits the deck if the camera is placed on the ground with lens facing skywards? Apparently that's something that people do sometimes with rental gear... Probably a good thing if so; at least they're replaceable separate from the camera.

No, probably the first thing that will hit the deck will be same as before - the power connector, which is not good. A right angle plug would help a bit.

Scott, nice job. I wonder how easy it would be to make an add-on bracket that attached to this one, and wrapped around the back of the camera and under the power connector. This could then allow you to tilt the camera back on the ground with the weight resting on this bracket instead of the connector. (probably a lot cheaper than the inevitable broken connectors)

I have been approached about making a power cable with R/A connector. Looking into this but, depends on the orientation of the Chassis LEMO. If the connector keyway is at the top, cable goes down, if the keyway is at the bottom, Cable goes up then interferes with the Joystick. The R/A LEMO can only go opposite the Keyway of the connector.

I'm unsure if the connector can be rotated in the rear cover or if the hole is cut to the connector footprint, which will then only allow two positions. Unless, The connector is PCB Mounted, then NO option.

From memory the locating slot is not at a good angle for a R/A connector & would need to be rotated.

Hi Dale. I'm sure you must have seen a camera on the ground on a sandbag or something, even if you wouldn't do it yourself! The reality is that people will do it, and it's best to protect for it. I have already seen it done at least twice on the Red camera and you have to take precautions that the power connector (and the control panel) is protected.

To avoid confusion, I am reffering to the camera being tilted back on a sandbag or grovel pad to get a low angle looking up, not acutally being rested on it's back end looking straight up at the sky.
