  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mike McEntire

Thanks for all the props. I love shooting snow but I have moved on from that chapter for the most part... Doing a bit of shooting for friends this spring in Tahoe but lately have been doing more stuff with FMX and commercial work. Also have a really dope film in the works with my buddy Jay Schweitzer documenting distance jumping on motorcycles from Evel to Capes, Bird and Maddo in the hunt for 400 feet. That is going to hit hard when we get done with the edit. Glad that you guys liked the snow flicks and possibly will revisit that road but for now looking to continue commercial DP work and hopefully features as well. Had to make the change or I would have been stuck in that zone for life. Great to make the change and tackle new challenges.

Epic in the hands of a legend, Nice!

Thanks for the updates on how it's working out for you and all the best with the latest projects. Cheers

Just pulled a few still from todays shoot. The tiffs were 63mp. Freaking huge. I was messing around with the 1/8000 a second shutter speed. The stills were razor sharp with my RPP 85. Also of note is how solid the titanium PL mount is. Best camera mount I have ever had. More to come this weekend when I get a day off.

good news! Look forward to your day off haha. Titanium mount will suite you well for extreme conditions.

Thanks Billy. Hope to do some work with you sometime soon. Camera is so powerful it makes me feel lucky every time I fire it up.
Hope things are good. Awesome reel you got going there BTW. Good to see Bird made the cut!

Couple more things on lens coverage. I have the Peleng 8mm fisheye. It does not cover the full 5K frame. It does cover if you shoot with a 16x9 crop. I also tested out my Canon 45mm tilt shift lens. This covers the full 5K frame and looks great.

Hi Ryan the sensor has hit the snow. I finally got in front of my tower with RR card and started looking at my tests and early production footage with the Epic. Simply stated this is the best camera ever made for shooting sports, auto, moto and fast action material (what I usually shoot), I shot some stuff of a plasma cutter going through steel on snow at 120fps and 1/8000 shutter. It is freaking unreal. Snowboarding stuff is so sick it almost makes me want to make another snow flick. HDRX is pretty amazing if used tastefully. Figured out all kinds of configs for the camera and they are small light and very comfortable. I was a little scared to buck up for the M but it was the best money I have ever spent besides a ring for my wife. Shooting with Simon Dumont this week so that is going to be siiiick!
Believe the hype.

Hi Mike,

If you get time, I would really enjoy reading and looking at some of your snow tests. :)

I love this post.

Looking forward to seeing your 5k work Mike - you made the right choice.

Hey Mike! It was so great meeting you today, working with you and the rest of the crew. Here's to several more shoots together!

Hey just wanted to let everyone know that we have set up shop in Oceanside CA for the rest of the summer. Epic is available from San Diego to LA and beyond.
Lots of seat time with the camera now and it is rock solid.
Best,
Mike
