This one is a special one for me personally..

Mike McEntire was a big part of the motivation for me to get into this industry... Many of you guys that Snowboard might know of him as "Mack Dawg" and his 20 year run of producing some of the best extreme sports films on the planet. Films like Upping the Ante, Decade, Meltdown Project, Pocahontas, Technical Difficulties.. the list goes on.

Mike.. have fun with your Epic. Thanks for your dedication to the industry and inspiring many of filmmakers young and old.

Nice. Thanks Jarred -- I'm familiar with Mike's work, as my family was super into snowboarding. Can't wait to see what you do with your Epic, Mike :)

Mike rocks!,, big fan from back in the day!
good luck

Yes I'm sure Mike is going to rock the Epic and HDRx in the snow.
Love your films Mike
The lifts might be closed in Fernie but there's hiking to be had :-)

I am going to try to put into words how amazing this camera is. I have been shooting since 6th grade 40 some years ago and have always tried to have the best equipment I can get my hands on. I remember how stoked I was when my dad gave me my first Nikkormat back then. I remember my first Beaulieu 4008, Arri S, Arri SR3, Red One, etc...
All of these cameras were and still are incredible but this Epic M seems like it dropped out of Outer Space into my lap.
This is what I have always wanted in a camera and I am going to try my best to push it to its limits.
Much love to all the Red Team who put their hearts and souls into this little slice of heaven.
Truly a work of art.

Yeah I have a few days at the Nixon Jibfest at Northstar to try that HDRx out coming up. I am so curious to see how the cam is going to handle the snow. Let the good times roll.

Looking forward to watching 48fps HDRx goodness :-)

Jarred thanks for the kind words. It has been a long time since I sat down with Jim as a scruffy little scrapper trying to get Oakley to sponsor "Upping the Ante" back in 93. Thankfully he did and continued to do so for years and years. I remember seeing the master collection of his cameras and freaking out. Now it is all rolled up into one little mind melting box that is screaming at me to put it to work. Tomorrow is going to be historical for me.
So stoked!
Thanks again.

As a snowboarder of the first second I have almost all the big Mack Dawg movies. Knowing that they will film the next projects with the epic gives me goosebumps.
Great move to give em an M.

Cheers from snowboard paradise country.

I have never watched single movies more times over and over and over than the Mack Dawg snowboarding flicks. Thanks for the years of inspiration both on the hill and in my mind Mike. Really looking forward to seeing what you do with this camera...

Big fan of Mike!
Enjoy your Epic!
I am a skier myself but I got to watch your work many many times over as girlfriends and friends are mostly into snowboard...
The snow season may be over on this hemisphere but thank god for New Zealand!

Awesome news!! It's nice to see what kind of group of people you inspired for filmmaking the last 2 decades. It was always a pleasure to jump on my bike and go to the snowboardshop to be the first to get the newest mdp dvd's. It brings up cool memories with loads of different friends all watching it at home.

You are one of those guys I would love to see get his hands on the Epic M and it is great to see Jarred also feels kind of that way!! I hope you have tons of fun and tease us around in the process. (Like MDP teasers always warmed us up the way no other extreme sports movie could tip on production value).

Always nice to hear from your work... on progress.
I'm huge fan of you and your work os course.
Happy shooting with your EPIC M.
Congrats Brother :w00t:.
cheers from Brazil

OK quick report from the trenches. Just getting up to speed on the camera. It is awesome. Spent 5 or 6 hours last night with the manual and all of my gear figuring out best configurations for all of my styles of shooting. Today I shot it at the Nixon Jibfest for its maiden journey. What a treat. 5k with all the framerates and HDRx to boot. Dionic 90HCs were lasting and lasting. I will try to get a timing on that tomorrow but it was way better then consumption on Red One. SSD is so much better then the Red Drive and CF's I was using. Lighter, faster download on Red Station, and for all of the loud car and moto stuff I shoot no dropped frames. Another thing that has to be experienced by all Red One owners is the Epic start up time. It is on in 10 seconds or something right around there. For me this is huge because I shoot a lot of World Records and one time only stunts where waiting for a camera to boot can mess with an atheletes mind. I put it onto a handheld setup and the weight feels so minimal. The Duclos 11-16 has full coverage and looks great on the Epic. The RPP's have never looked better. A big plus for me was my Angenieux 25-250 HP covers as long as I do a 16x9 crop. If not it vignettes till about 50mm. All the touchscreen menus and user keys make changing settings lightning fast. Just managing media and out shooting again tomorrow. The big bummer is I am up in Reno and I left my Tower with Red Rocket card in San Diego. Just checking shots on the laptop is pretty hard. My bad but will be back down there soon. Still lots to learn but it is great to be shooting on the Epic. Open to rentals once I get the camera dialed in 100 percent. More to come soon as I get some more time with the camera.
