I've never captured scratch audio before on the R1 (manual sync, woo!) but I figure some automation couldn't hurt for an upcoming project. Is there a small mic (I've seen pictures of such that attach to the Scarlet) that I could purchase for it?

Depending on how big you want to go, my best bet would be to either just use a shotgun mic you have anyway or check out the most common DSLR Mics. Like the Røde video microphones. I'd suggest one with completely removable cable so you don't need to adapt it to get to XLR mini but use a dedicated cable.

Then it depends on your audio situation you're trying to capture if you want a more specific recommendation.

I've also used the zoom h6 and its switchable microphones and plugged that into the camera to capture some in camera sounds.

The tiny voice recorder mics like the Olympus ones http://www.olympus.co.uk/site/en/a/audio_accessories/accessories_professional_dictation/microphones/index.jsp don't have a big reach and are only sometimes practical for the DSMC because of the 3.5mm in at the front. Wouldn't recommend that in your case. But that might depend on your shooting setup.

Haven't used it, but just found the Røde video micro which is tiny and costs only $60. Might be perfect for your purposes without adding weight and could be a decent scratch. http://en.rode.com/microphones/videomicro
