  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MG1 Concepts is an awesome company

Hi Caden, cost me $34,00 to ship to Toronto and took 3 days for me to get them.

I know there was no guarantee nor any insurance on that package, right? I ship to and from Toronto all the time for commercial work and its not cheap from UPS/FedEX.
What happened if it got lost? Do they replace it? Constantly, using different couriers because they all f'up. I switch routinely to see who's better or doesn't F'up again and most cost efficient. RED uses DHL and RED owners are not happy of that. You can read the threads.

Shit all ways breaks on set or before a shoot begins. I have to Overnight accessories/parts/camera/lenses to make it work but dang...its so darn pricy.

I recommend all RED owners to stock 2 or 3 extra accessories of each item in their arsenal before a shoot (if you can afford) or definitely if you are renting out your gear. If your camera goes down or power goes out, you need a plan B or have a back-up system ready - 2nd camera or battery plate. I have a ton of extra cables, connectors, screws, tools...damn everything especially batteries, battery plates, and monitors. You don't want to be stuck in middle of nowhere and not have your camera working. It happens and producers freak and the bottom line - you are responsible!!! Period. Don't be one of those guys.

I don't know how some of these guys rent out their gear with a small camera package and have no back-up. Crazy.

"Convo?"

In my search for a battery plate, I've contemplated Wooden, VF, CinemaOxide, etc.. and settled with MG1 for affordability and a few good reviews. Let me add to the pool and say that I'm not only completely happy with my Scarlet V-Mount Pro, but I was recently surprised to see how good the customer service was.

At a recent shoot, my batteries (AXRTEC 89s) stopped powering my Scarlet and I couldn't quite figure out the problem. I tried opening up the plate to see if there was any damage to the cable, but didn't see any indication of it. I contacted John at MG1 and from then on it was super quick email replies back and forth to pinpoint the problem. I sent out the plate on Tuesday and received it back Saturday morning, just in time for a shoot, in perfect working condition. Between Tuesday and Saturday, I've been receiving daily email updates and even a follow-up convo this morning.

I hope this helps any new RED users on choosing the right plate for them.
