  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When it's RED, it pours! ;)

Seems like lots of RED releases this week to keep everyone busy! And to add to that, we are proud to announce the availability of MetaFuze v2.0 that can be downloaded here:
http://www.avid.com/metafuze/

In addition to the application itself, there is an additional Step by Step Guide for RED users and MetaFuze, so be sure to download that as well. If you decide to skip out on reading anything (now who does that?) at least be sure to uninstall any previous versions of MetaFuze first, before installing v2.0.

Enjoy!

Michael (and rest of Avid)

Appears as if SD creation is not supported --- can only go as low as DNx36.

No OSX at this time. That is a longer term effort. SD is on the list of stuff to consider for a future version. There is a backlog of things we know we need to do. This release concetrated on performance increase, batch processing, audio support, etc.

Nice update. Audio and batch are great and 10 bit is nice too.

Be warned however that even though you can use this to get video and audio into MC, you cannot get the audio into DS - only the video media links up. I understand that incorporating this probably would have delayed the release even more. Back to RedRushes for me.

Every show I worked on uses separate audio recording so while MF audio support is nice it's not essential.

However, if you really need to get this audio from MC to DS, you export it from MC as WAV and bring that in if you must.

Conforming AFEs with many audio tracks is impractical in DS. A typical workflow for MC to DS is that you export OMF or AAF for ProTools, delete all audio tracks, export the sequence as AFE.

Then in DS you conform AFE and when audio department is done mixing they give you broadcast WAV files to cut into your conformed sequence.

Not essential; I was just hoping to have the option.

Absolutely, if you're conforming a MC project. If you're starting the project however is would be nice to have the audio come in with the picture. I realize this isn't necessarily the most common scenario, I just want anyone else who's in the same boat and finds this thread to have all the info.

Audio that is part of the R3D or double system?

Is the project rate matching the shoot rate?

I would like to have 720 25p as an output option. Editing offline at 1080p is not necessary and SD is too low-res and also not avalible.

And still, whenever I try to import alot of R3D files for a batch, the SICORE engine crashes.
I'm still feeling that going through Redcine and Metacheater with fast import into Avid is way more stable at this time.

oops - looks like 720p/25 got left out of the project types. Not intentional. Will add that to an update. 720p for 23.976 is really a 59.94 format with 30fps addressing which makes the workflow more painful. Less an issue for 25p although the format is really 50 frames, he timecode format does not change.

I still prefer 1080p at DNxHD 36 than a 720p at 60. Roughly twice the storage with no real visible difference in editorial quality - then no additional resize when I make a Blu Ray for review. Also, DNxHD 36 holds up quite well for screenings - I have seen it on 40 foot screens and it looked fine.

Michael

What you are saying is that the storage difference between 720p and 1080p isn't much?
Still, 720p is enough, especially when doing offline but need to try out different effects and grading styles without reducing the system performance while playing.

Even though it's not on the subject, I need to ask about playback. When playing footage I always get tearing and when selecting "flip on vertical" or whatever it's called, It reduces the tearing but is choppy and non-usable for feeling the rythm of the edited footage. How do I reduce the tearing and choppy playback? It's really annoying when editing and doesn't show the film in it's true rythm.
