Initial NOTE: I am an editor, not a DP or cameraman!

Did a shoot with the RED. Am now sitting with the director in an edit and getting yelled at. Here's my problem...

The footage that we're looking at in FCP, that was transcoded with the Metadata does not look like what we saw in camera on the day of our shoot.

Am I incorrect that when I'm using REDAlert to troll through footage and I click on the Metadata button at the top the footage should look like it did in camera on the day of the shoot? I mean, that's what the metadata is, right? Well, when I click on the Metadata button in REDAlert, what I see looks terrible. It is underexposed, with tons of noise and none of the color we saw in the monitors on the shoot.

So as an editor, how do get the RAW Red footage to just look like it did in the monitors on the shoot day without doing a proper color correct with the DP?

Thanks in advance!

Jason

You need to use RedSpace for color space and either Rec-709 or RedSpace for Gamma. It should get you back in good graces with director:)
