It looks like with Metafuze and the new Avid native workflow method Metacheater is no longer needed. Or am I wrong about that?

thanks,
Noah

I would say that as long as Metafuze is PC only, then yes, you are wrong.

Would it be possible to run MetaFuze under VMWare Fusion/Bootcamp and use the generated ALE file in MacOS? Just a thought...

Yes. But my feeling is that most Mac users don't really want to go that route when there are numerous other conversion tools available, even if it does fit into the Avid work path a bit better. Besides, going the Bootcamp route creates issues with storage and disk naming conventions, as well as other things. Probably simpler to do what we've done for some time now, as the Metacheater/RedRushes/Batch Import route is pretty simple and pretty efficient, particularly for 720p import.

MetaCheater is still used in the workflow

SD offline
720p offline
Transcode to DNxHD from a pull list to QT wrapped DNxHD

I don't even reboot - I just run both all the time...

Yep, that's the ticket for sure. But for those who don't want to spend the money($79.00, although I found it on sale for $59), you can run MetaFuze under Bootcamp without VMWareFusion

I'm still waiting for a way to either transcode directly into MXF files or run R3D references directly in Avid. If Avid would manage that, then Final Cut becomes obsolete in my view.

You're wanting MXF so you can transcode to SD files? And by Avid, you are saying MediaComposer or Symphony? Avid DS does run .R3D files directly. I know it's not the norm, but there are a few shops that offline/online with DS, ours being one of them.
