  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This wednesday October 24th Ted from red is coming to Bay area for a reduser meeting, does anyone have any questions that I should ask him? I know we are all waiting the answers on Red scarlet dragoon upgrade and what its upgrades includes, if anyone has any other questions drop it in here.

Would love to know where power management firware is sitting. Last we heard at NAB was that it was at the top of their list, but no word yet. These 20 minute Redvolt swaps are killing me! Thanks
 
Ask if the 50fps in 3k will be in that firmware. If there would be a new rocket card anyway soon i would like to know but i guess he could not give any information on that. Wasn't that a very slim module for transfer the picture wireless? Im interested to here more about that.
 
It´s so clear what all Scarlet user´s questions are, I hope Ted has some revealing answers:

When is Scarlet Dragon due?
When will we have: 4k WS, 50 fps in 3k, 25 fps in HDRx?
What about power management in the new firmware?

To all this I will add:

Can we have a Luma curve preview while shooting?

Or we do have one and I haven´t found it yet.

And the last question:

When are the 48gb Redmags coming out?

Great meeting him tonight! The monochrome epic was gorgeous. He even showed us clips shot at 3200 ISO that barely had any grain!
 
Great event! Always fun to see Ted present. I also enjoyed hanging with other Bay Area RED guys although I got there slightly late and had to bolt right after the meeting. I hoipe we can do it again and have some quality time to schmooz!
 
Did anyone ask about the potential for 4.5k on Scarlet? I didn't think of the question before now.

...I know, I know, Scarlet isn't Epic, but this is one of those things where it *should* be able to do it and if not, it'd be nice to know why (and not just a line like, 'engineering a digital cinema camera is difficult.')
 
He didn't go over any scarlet specific technical details. He did talk about batteries and power for about 15 minutes, options for batteries, battery life, changes in battery firmware - all of which I didn't follow very well with all the brand names and specifications - since I'm mainly on AC and just use redvolts for short times, so don't know all those configurations.

The star of the show was the black and white epic, he showed tons of shots and how it worked ... it is just insanely good, second you hold it and look through the screen, is one of those things you will lust after forever more.

Last time I checked, my scarlet could do 5K. :smiley:

(If you are talking about increased frame rates, nothing specific was discussed that I recall.)

HA! Touche. I meant at speed (24-25fps...) Plus even though it does 5k, they skipped 4.5k for some unknown reason (maybe because it can do 24/25fps, and they don't want it to breach into Epic territory... or they'll wait for Dragon before enabling it on Scarlet?)

As for Epic-Mono; I'm really excited to see some full res stuff, as I believe it will be comparable to what Dragon will look like... just with colour... and a couple more stops DR.

Great meeting! Yes the monochrome Epic was pretty awesome, I cranked it up to 12,800 ISO and it still looked decent, like an old 16mm B&W work print.
