Hello Fellow RED Enthusiasts,
My name is Matt Caravella and I work over at Media100. Yes, that Media100. Yup we're still here.
Some of you might know that Media100 Suite 2.0 supports native R3d file editing in our classically easy to use interface.
We spent a good amount of time working on R3D file support and we'd love to get some feedback as to how you think we did.
Media100 Suite 2.0 also supports the RED Rocket accelerator hardware for those of you that take advantage of that technology.
If you'd like more general information about Media100 Suite 2.0 you can read the Press release here: http://www.media100.com/news/V2.php
Any Specific questions can be addressed to me, and I'd be happy to answer them for you.
We do offer a free, fully function, 14 day trial version of Media100 Suite 2 at our website: www.media100.com

Again, all of us here at Media100 are excited to be part of the RED User community.
We look forward to any and all feedback from Red users and supporters.

all the best,

+1 :-)

Yes, welcome to Red User, Matt. Thanks for posting. Media 100 was my first NLE also. I loved it. Very easy to use and logical. There were some features in it I still miss in FCP. Will definitely have another look.

Thanks for the welcome folks. If you have any questions or concerns about the free trial, feel free to let me know.
In the meantime, you could also take a quick look at Floh Peter's Overview of the RED workflow within Media100 Suite:

P.S.: Ivan, I do have a few old pieces of Media100 hardware in my closest. I'll sell you my DV option for half price.

looks nice…

exactly that 1.5 or 2 years earlier and maybe we wouldn't have jumped onto the FCP Suite - but at that time the RED workflow was just not there (Media100 HD somewhere at version 13 iirc - running on a Mac Pro)… the Color Correction part, Metadata integration and realtime playback with higher Res was lacking - and native support was not possible back then I think (with our transition from HVX200 to RED One we switched to FCP, main reasons mentioned above). But I always found Media100 to be a very reliable and stable solution for the codecs and cameras that were fully/native supported… it was just not as flexible and somewhat limited in some ways (color correction, animation). But as said more stable and less buggy compared to FCP… We still use it for Playout on Tape (Digibeta), and we've got a second one (Dual G5 with version 10 or 11) for SD and older projects (back in the days we started with Media100i -> long time ago already)…

I'm pretty sure I could work with it... just don't know if our head dept. could be convinced to step "back" now with FCP X in the pipeline…
It will depend on how or if FCP X integrates Color and/or a own RED workflow. Maybe this update comes just a bit too late for us…
I'll take another/closer look at the new Trial nonetheless…

Heh, I still have a couple of XS and SDI breakout boxes kicking around! Was real ground breaking stuff at the time!

A Quick Question for those interested in answering:
What are folks using for viewing "dailies" in the field or simple cuts on set?

REDCINE-X

PS- M100 was my second NLE after Premiere v4. LOVED your interface. We might even have an 844x in the basement...

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the reply. Red Cine-X makes sense.
The M100 interface hasn't changed that much. We've added a bunch of features but the paradigm is the same.
99 Video Layers / Multicam workflow and all that.
It remains very familiar and it's lightweight (3-4 Gb of ram and an Intel Processor and you're good to go).
Hold on to that 844/X, you're going to want it when it's "cool" to shoot SD again.

Matt, you're looking better and better. Did you ever work with Bryce Button?

Matt,

Matt good to see Media 100 back on board with a intelligent new product. I apologize in advance for any old wise cracks about the about the old Media 100 , easy fodder, but no harm intended. Will Media 100 be making the trade show circuit? Any showcase events planned? Keep up the good work. There's a whole generation of users that never experienced the the goodness of the Media 100 platform. Hope you get some new customers, especially behind the shakeup of the FC-X. Cheers.

Yes I had the pleasure of working with Bryce.
It was great to see him at NAB this year.

Good guy. I bet he has his hands full with FCP users these last couple days ;-)

Mr Halsell,
No apology needed.
We did attend NAB this year with the BorisFX crew. I'm not sure about IBC yet. If we're not there in person, we will have some presense.
I certainly have interest in any event that will welcome us. Don't hesitate to make suggestions that I can take to the "higher ups".
We are planning several live "webcasts" this summer and I'll be sure to make sure everyone knows when they are happening.

By the way, one thing I forgot to mention in my short Red workflow with Media 100 overview is the fact that Media 100 Suite 2 also supports the RedRocket card. So in case you have one already you will benefit from the faster decode on the RedRocket hardware inside Media 100.
