We have an order in - for the AL Package (Canon)

Is it worth nuking the 64GB off and getting 2 x 128s or 4 x 64s - workflow wise?

Also what else is a 'must have'

Yes, that's what I did when I first ordered. I opted for 2x128's before trading one for 2x64's. Good variety... for now at least.

Another must have is the touch lcd and for many, the sidehandle. My side still hasn't arrived yet and I am beginning to feel the weight of the red bricks on the back.

I would highly recommend getting the sliding top handle and swat rail (or comparable product). We have had the sliding top handle from the start and I honestly don't think we could live without it. There is absolutely no good way to hold the Scarlet without a top handle (and I REALLY don't want you to drop your Scarlet ;)

It really depends on your work environment which plan is the best. For me I don't want to be changing media often. I can't offload til the end of the day usually anyways. For me it works better shooting on a 256 and a 128. If I have a shoot where I do have to offload something quickly I'll use the 128 first and offload while I shoot the 256.

+1 on a larger number of smaller cards for us... 30 minutes of record time is plenty for our general applications, but I certainly understand some applications that might need longer.
I like using multiple 64Gb cards to keep DIT happy & less footage to loose if something does go wrong with a transfer/error

Good point Jeffrey. I'm always shooting commercials and short spots where clients always want to see shots as soon as possible to start playing with looks. Best to figure out your shooting style/workflow...

I actually prefer the larger SSDs. I would rather keep all my footage from the day on the SSDs without formatting them, as they are more reliable than the 7200rpm drives I transfer the footage on. Usually we will back up everything twice, say on two 500gb externals, then additionally have all the data on the original 128gb SSDs as well, until the editor has ingested the footage into his machine.
