Quick access to this link for those that may need help in calculating their basic or enhanced media needs for RAVEN as my original calculations were slightly off due to intro of mini-mags it was a good reality check on what I will need at a minimum for my avg shoots http://www.red.com/tools/recording-time

120 seems to be pretty close to the 64 for the Scarlet if you're shooting at a pretty healthy compression rate (5:1+).

Not bad. Price is about the same as the 64 was back then, too!

If you can't budget enough mags, consider a cheap laptop for offloading in the field.
Not sure how you guys survived on those 64/120/240GB mags before the 512GB was available. Anything less than that seems like a pain to constantly be on the verge of filling up.

I started a thread on my inexpensive solution a while ago:

When I bought my HVX200 for $8K when it came out, I only had 1x 8GB card. I think I had 20 minutes of recording at 720p on it so that's what I did. And then I would dump (SLOWLY) and then continue. It was crazy. Eventually I bought a second one so I could offload as I shot the other card, but I was too poor to stay ahead of them.

When I switched to the Canon 7D, it was a Godsend to have all of that media for so cheap.

Switching over to the Scarlet I did the same thing, 1x 64GB card for awhile until I had 2. And then I sold those and bought 2x 128's. 30 minutes is plenty of time unless you're shooting long format stuff like interviews/concerts. If you're shooting commercials like I do, it's fine.

I plan on getting 2x 120 for the Raven to start unless I find a sweet deal on some 240's.

Great calculator, thanks for sharing. Helped put the minimag capacities into real world context.

I ordered a new 512GB mini-mag assuming this will give me around 2.5 hours at 24fps FF 7:1 on the Raven. Seems about right according to the tool. I don't think they had the Raven in there before in the drop down so we just had to guesstimate before.

Anyone know how much usable space a formatted 512GB RED card gives ya anyway?

Still trying to work out if it is possible to get a 2K/1080p full frame signal out of Raven to an external recorder? (Atomos or similar)

Scott

Don't know about the Atomos, but the Oydessy 7Q+ will get a signal and can record up to 4K 60fps internally.
