  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If R3D files are loaded by AMA is there a way to tell Avid MC5 to use automatically the RMD file (if there is one) for color- source settings while loading???

Thanks

edit:

Just checked again… indeed: rmd data is uses automatically by import… very good…

BUD the values form RED /GREEN / BLUE are not submitted… a BUG?

It should read RMD automatically - you can load manually RLX and RSX if needed. You can also apply a single RMD, RLX, RSX for a multi selection of clips - good for scenarios where the DP only has time to set a look for one of shots of the same scene/location.

I'll have to check on the RED/GREEN/BLUE. Are they applied to the image but not persisted to the sliders and metadata or both?

Are the "lift/gamma/gain" sliders and color wheels also taken into account in Avid MC5 ?

And what happens if you import your shots into Avid, do some editing, then change the grade of some shots in RCX ? Are the new grades automatically used instead of the old ones ? Can you choose ? How does it work ?

Thanks :)

All parameters shouldd be talen into account - just not all of them are available for readjustment in the source settings pane.

You can change the values in RCX or in source settings and the master clip will update accordingly. But, these values do not automatically persist to those clips in the sequence for a variety of goood reasons. You need to have the sequence active/selected and go to clip and refresh sequence for color, format, etc.

Both - they are not applied to the image and not persisted to the sliders...

Thanks Michael,
that's awesome.

So how about a "send to RCX" option in Avid that would send all the clips from an Avid timeline (with I/O points) directly into RCX to allow a quick grade ? It wouldn't need to be perfectly formated, just send all the clips in the right order so we can grade them... And then all we would have to do is refresh the sequence for color, and all the grades would change accordingly in the Avid sequence. And then render your timeline in Avid to whatever format you want.
I know there are other tools that can take an EDL and import it in RCX, but having such a tool in Avid itself would make things so much easier, especially for people who are new to Red.

Is this a BUG or just my machine?
"lift/gamma/gain" sliders / color wheels and the values form RED /GREEN / BLUE slides of RMD files have no effect to the image while applying RMD in MC 5 “source settings”.
Has anyone ells notice this as well?

No, we are seeing it in engineering QA as well. Looking into it.

I just installes the AvidMediaComposerPatch5.0.3.8.

When I improt R3D files by AMA - the RCX RMD file ist not read automatically.

If I import several R3D files by "Link to AMA Volume..." and try to link the RMD settings to a clip later on -- MC5 does not even find the RMD right a way - it does not show up under "Set Sourdce Settings" / "Settings:".. I have to click on LOAD to finde the RMD

If I imported one R3D file by "Link to AMA File..." under "Set Sourdce Settings" / "Settings:"... i find the RMD file for the clip ( named "Untitled" )...

This all should go automatically...

do I miss something???

Chris -

I'll try looking into this later today, time permitting. Anyone else seeing this?
