  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MB-16 vs. RedRock MB

any happy redrock mattebox owners out there? I'm nervous about buying one now.

Guess it will depend on the wear and tear factor.

The screws on the one I worked with were just worn out. But thatone has been in constant use...

We have had our system for about a year, 2 features, countless videos and dozens of commercials. It still works/looks fine BUT we take extraordinary care to keep it that way. Always checking and lock- tighting screws. The box has worked for us as owner operators but I would have serious reservations if it was going into a rental rotation of the more classic sense. I don't think it will hold up. A new swing arm was being discussed here in the forum which would allow you to slide the camera off the dovetail baseplate without removing the
matte-box but I have not heard any more. I am very glad I bought the RR matte-box. In my case it allowed me to buy 3-320g drives at the time so it all depends on how you choose to rent your kit.

Yes, we are happy with ours for the money. Of course an Arri is better, but it can be 10x the price too for the same package. We used the money saved towards other Red accessories.

All depends on how you treat your equipment and how others treat it as well. If you're renting to people without going along as DIT etc, I'd recommend an Arri as you can then justify the cost. For us, the RedRock Micro matte boxes have performed admirably and are still going strong. But then, we look after our equipment....
