Does somebody think maybe is it good idea to fix GPS tracker to camera? especially for rental I think

Just a side note, Switronix looked into this a few years back and had built a few functioning prototypes using a GSM network. I'll try and unearth some old R&D from our archives. The feedback we received from rental companies was that since the cameras were insured, they weren't concerned, nor wanted to pay the monthly fee to maintain the GSM. The other concern was mounting the gps tracker. If we mounted it inside the camera(undetectable) it would void warranty....if we did it outside, it would be a deterrent but may be able to be removed. We considered wiring it to the battery mount plate and it would "ping" a location when the camera was powered/booted up.

Nowadays you can use pay per mb sims, so it may be viable. Suggestion, you all have very expensive equipment; have insurance.

The best form factor would be to make it fit in a redvolt. Try to make a a fake redvolt that weighs and feels as much as possible like the real one and keep it in the sidehandle.

because a redvolt size is bigger than most trackers, it would be nice if the extra space would be used for a battery, so it can have a life of a few months :)

RED, could you please consider make a feature in redcine-x, where when any stolen camera's footage is open in RCX (track metadata->send request to red database of stolen cameras->google maps), the red light goes on.
Would be a great feature. No need for hardware GPS solutions.

Something should be done, would love to have a solution for camera tracking and location in the event of a theft. Definitely worth having, we've been asking for this for years now. Just wish it were internal so that the camera could send a signal out when booted up. And that way it wouldn't be able to be removed easily.
