  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

May Update... The month of Raven

You can do plenty in the winter time, just need to be creative... Not to mention plenty of interior shots.... You know what's the best part of the cold? Not as many people outside so those critical shots that you want with your subject and your landscape/set.... Is available without interruption.

I'm not talking about personal projects, I'm talking about paying work. The amount of paying work of all kinds declines greatly after October.

David and Matthew, your rep would be able to tell you what stage you are at of order processing/upgrade.

Brent, I can't get in touch with anyone over there, and still have the option to have Fedex send back my camera but I need to know in the next couple hours. I hate to be a bugger.

This is unbelievable. Just got the call that my allocated, paid, Scarlet-W is now dis-allocated. WTF?? I really do think this is wrong in many ways, AT LEAST complete the allocated orders please... I've never seen anything like this. You can't just cancel people's allocations, I understand the situation with Raven's, but since I was told that my camera is looking to be shipped early this week prior, I had lots of shoots planned, BUDGETED assuming that I will be providing the camera. Now I was just told that I have no camera, and that the Epic Dragon loaner is not a guarantee, and most likely won't even have that. My shoot overseas starting May 13th involving lots of young filmmakers are now going to be FIRED due to the budget of rental. Dragon rental + accessories for multiple days/weeks means shoots cancelled, people fired, heart broken everywhere. Sigh

Wait, were you not charging a rental on your own anticipated Scarlet-W package? Couldn't you just use the rental budget you were going to use for your camera and shift it to another package? If you weren't charging the production money for your camera, then I'm afraid you only have yourself to blame. You should have demanded a the money needed for a proper camera package--if it's yours, great! If it's someone else's, great! Telling a production you will supply a new Red camera for free is just painting yourself into a corner.

Raven 2 Scarlet-w "switcher" here..
Allocated on April 19 and paid in full. same story, not shipping until earliest mid June?????
Getting the Epic Dragon loaner is a great option that not many companies would offer but when all the accessories are different it makes it pretty difficult to be realistic unless absolutely last resort.
even though my opinion wont matter, I think its really sketchy to allocate orders and take payment in full, then all of a sudden say you are stopping production and not shipping any further cameras out. I mean shouldn't you at least finish processing the orders that were allocated and paid for?

is it possible to suspect that a "problem" was discovered in the current builds of the Weapon and Scarlet-W? Maybe halting production was to minimize those customers who would be affected by known problems??? This type of explanation would at very least calm people who have paid in full and were patiently "waiting to ship"

still shocked about the epic loaner offer, but something just seems off about this situation. Its surely got to be more efficient to process the paid orders before switching ALL production over.. but hey.. you guys know what your doing. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat, Raven switcher to SW, April 15th allocated and paid in full, I was told 2-3 business days for shipping and still nothing...

Yeah the Epic Dragon loaners sound pretty unlikely, like a last minute suggestion. I had paid for my brain in full so there would be no delays assuming allocation was sometime during April, but it looks like I'll be pulling that money back out as I try to find a camera this year that I can actually shoot on in the mean time. Now if only I could get any of my BS reps on the phone...

I would like to echo the sentiments of the other users. I understand that you guys are delivering a superb product that blows everything away, and I have followed each announcement and delay. Unfortunately, my clients are not as understanding. It feels like I'm taking the blame for issues that I have no control over, and people are losing faith in me because I gave them MY word that Red would deliver, I vouched for you guys. I'll be with Red through thick and thin because I truly love your products, enthusiasm, and transparency; I want to support this amazing team as they redefine what is possible in cinema.

This update puts me in a VERY difficult position.

I think you are right. I'm in the same situation and having a hard time believing RED actions and excuses. I can't believed this was an Honest Mistake.

Delays are unfortunate, but I do get confused when productions stop because of undelivered camera. What camera's where being used prior to ordering a new RED camera? Secondly, jumping ship, what is out there that was out there already, prior to the RED announcement? Seems more like a case of rookiness and thin skin.

Do you have reason to believe that your order is being postponed? It seems weird and unlikely that even though they are switching the production lines to Raven that they wouldn't send out the Scarlet-Ws they've already made. Either way, they're reasonable guys and I'm sure they get something worked out.

The thread kinda starts looking like this...

Of course I'm charging rental on my own gear.... I happen to produce this shoot as well, and I can control how much of what goes anywhere. I chose to give more jobs over rental costs and make a better end product. It's not always about being paid for full for every equipment, I'd much rather sacrifice some of the budget of gear I own for the greater end result. But yes I did paint myself into a corner and I am really stupid for trusting things will happen on time

Update: Good news is that my rep got me a Dragon loaner. Honestly thought about cancelling and getting another camera but I really do appreciate that they are willing to help in this regard

I agree, anyone who books a shoot with a camera they do not own yet should only blame themselves. Just use whatever camera(s) you had prior.

however... what I do no understand is once the camera has been "allocated" and "paid in full" and your order is "being processed for shipping in 3-5 days" its only assumed even with a slight shipping delay you should still expect your product within a reasonable amount of time outside that window. I wouldn't really blame someone who was allocated and paid nearly a month ago for planning or booking a shoot during the month of may. If you're told its shipping in 3-5 days with overnight shipping what is the reasonable expectation here?

Delays are part of the expectation for such a solid product that always delivers. general rule of thumb here, Do not allocate if you cannot fulfill orders. Customer service is #1.. and my rep has been more than friendly trying to hold the wolves at bay.

good luck everyone..

Think about us day-one Raven orders who just want our camera. Then they announced the Scarlet-W and began shipping those first. I feel like we've been very patient in a not-forgotten-but-kind-of-neglected spot and it's finally our time, so... yay!

I've placed my self in the same situation. Ordered a Raven September 25 and switched to a Scarlet-W earlier last month. Had some shoots booked for late May and early June that I made the assumption I would rent my own RED out for. Was advised to transfer to a dealer, as my rep thought it would be quicker to get the camera, so I don't think I'm eligible for the 'loaners', but going to ask about it... Was nice thinking the camera would start getting paid off right away and helped with the budget, as I wasn't going to charge full pop on the RED rental. Still going to rent a RED for the shoots, just means less money going into my pocket. Which in the end makes it harder to purchase the Scarlet-W. All and all pretty disappointing. Hopefully have it later in the summer and can make up for it.

This is exactly what happen to most people. just before NAB (not sure if this was a PR decision or what. RED decided to allocated people a take their money promising a Scarlet-W almost a month later they are saying sorry guys we can't deliver the product if you are lucky enough you will get a loaner from us. This is really wrong from wherever you see it.

There were also like 100 Scarlet-W's scattered around NAB. Maybe more. Seemed like they were at every booth I stopped at.

I guess we know where all of our I/O Packages went!

Some of us are first time camera owners who've begged borrowed and saved our pennies or cents and based business plans and projected earnings for repayments on having a crucial part of our kit (the camera!) available from a specific date(ish).
Every week and month that ticks by does make you question the decision you made to buy a RED when there are other options out there available off the shelf.

BUT We've all made the decision to support RED a small disruptive company and not jump on the multi-national bandwagon and should respect that with that comes an element of risk...not in terms of the quality of product but more with the fact that they've obviously massively underestimated the popularity of their new line.
I can see a company that's trying to keep a shit tonne of balls in the air and yes maybe a couple get dropped, but you know what, they will get there and at the end of the day when you get your new RED in hand and shout at speed for the first time it'll all be forgotten.
p.s-I'm a patiently waiting (got a massive job looming that will pay for it) SW first time RED owner
