  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Been there done that.. trust me, when you have a big lens and want to switch to landscape or portrait in a fully loaded epic in the middle of a moment smoothly while in motion.. it doesn't work out so well. Motion is key.. opportunity for both wide and tall seem to open up alot more when you are shooting motion.. even when extracting for stills is on your mind.

yes it can.. there is a hidden surprise regarding just that you will need to wait and see.

He he, I tough of that after I wrote it... But from my Italian/English writing and my way of expressing things, I got used to it... ;)

What needs to matter to every one, is the understanding that even with a GREAT "L" plate, and or a super adjustable head like the Arca Swiss CUBE, which btw is $1,600, you still need to set up and re-level each time to insure perfect alignment of the Vertical axis in its 180 degree position, while with the "L" plate of course you need to unmount and re-mount each time you go form Landscape to Portrait mode, a PAIN and a waist of time.

So the R90, will bring a new and never seen before ease of use for this type of shooting going form Landscape to Portrait had never seen such a clever implementation so I can't wait for it and hope to have it in time for our Movie, since will be shooting LOTS of Portrait/Landscapes at the same time.
 
Jarred I'm sorry to ask you that. This info are quite nice to have but do you we could get the same update for Europe.
As you are probably aware of what is happening in RED EUROPE it is completely not the same availability from us in Europe and it might be nice to get some official info from RED HQ. Because sometime it is a one month or two months delays between Europe and US
 
I am very amped abpuit the firmware update. I think this is the one with "super secret gps / etc" releases? Next up, the madly requested power management? Thanks, Jarred / Team.

will SCARLET ever be enabled for 4.5K - will the sensor support it?

but don't worry. One thing I have learned is that people who like to complain will always find something to complain about. :/)

We all like girls, and that is why I want/need the R90, and tools such as this that will assist us in setting up the camera faster and better, so we do get more free time on set with not just the camera gear... ;)

Well, I know it wouldn't work for motion, but with the DSMC concept maybe you guys should think about a few primarily-for-stills accessories. In addition to, not instead of, of course.

There are cases where motion shooting requires size and complexity (and therefore cost) that is superfluous for stills-only shooting. In my opinion the R90 vs. an L-plate is a great example.

I know that's at odds with the shoot-motion-extract-stills workflow you promote, but not everyone wants to work that way.
