This was mentioned in the Jarred/Scott Balkum livestream.
I echo Jarred's sentiment where Matt Tremblay is to RED similar to what Jony Ive was to Apple
Back in 2007, I remember 1st seeing footage of Matt Tremblay discussing the ergonomic strategy of the early RED One.
Was a bit surprised to see what looked like a younger guy maybe a little younger than me doing industrial design
for this new cinema company.
Over the years I've grown to have a huge amount of respect for what Tremblay bought to industrial design at RED.
There was clearly a strong vision and philosophy on how things should look and feel when one operated RED gear and it seems he was the main guy behind that.
I can definitely say out of the various camera brands I have to film with in a given year, RED cameras are by far the camera most regular people either stop and ask what kind of camera it is or even pull out the phone and pose with the camera.
I really think Tremblay hit a big stride with DSMC 3 particularly Komodo.
The design work on Komodo essentially turned Jean-Pierre Beauviala's (founder of Aaton camera) ergonomic concept of the "cat on the shoulder"
into "a kitten on the hand" because that's pretty much what a lightly rigged Komodo feels like even after a long day of filming with it.
Never met Matt Tremblay but truly appreciate what he bought to RED and filmmaking with his designs.
Best wishes to him.
