Hey everyone,

Wondering if anyone has any experience matching different Red sensors. I have a doc I am shooting next week and the production company is renting another Red but its a Scarlet MX. The MX is B camera on a Dana Dolly to get some movement (much wider shot). A Camera is my SW (main interview). I thought maybe shooting both cameras in Rec 709 color space that would help matching in post.

Will this work or should I suggest another option?

I'd also suggest controlling the highlights more in the MX shot so nothing is clipped or at the edges of the camera's dynamic range, which are the places where you might notice the difference in cameras more readily.

I've been mixing mx with sony a7s for 2 years. Took me a while to get downpat... its not perfect but once you know how they both respond and what setting to use it can be done. Recently rented an epix dragon as an A cam and used our mx as a bcam for interviews. All lit by natural light and kinoflos. Other than some highlight clipping in out of focussed area in the background (minimal) they matched beautifully. I dont know that that would be the same if wasnt under daylight balanced sources (and daylight).

I would shoot them both Redlog and protect highlights. You're going to have to color them to match so shoot as clean a neg as possible.
