Matching Dedolight DLH-4 150s with Kinos and/or Arri 650 or 750?

Just picked up 3 Dedolight DLH-4 150s. Really loved these lights. These tungsten lights really put out some pure white. A good thing I know. But had some challenges matching other lights(Kino or LED''s) to them. My Kino Diva 401 (tungsten bulbs) slightly swings towards magenta, I think. So I am adding 1/8 green or 1/4 green to them. Was thinking about getting some Arri 650's or Arri 750's to add to my set up.
Can I mix and match the dedo's to the Arri's. Can I assume the Arri's are as "true" as the dedolights. Or should I just splurge on the Dedo 650 to be safe.
Thanks in advance.

Not surprising that the Kinos are a bit magenta (they can spike either green or magenta depending on age and/or ambient temperature) Using Arris with Dedos shouldn't be a problem. Using continuous spectrum lighting won't have nearly the "spikiness" as the gas-discharge (fluorescent, HMI, etc) or other more exotic sources. If a tungsten is a little off, it will be a general shift one way or another and will usually depend not he age and/or condition of the globe itself. They generally don't have an issue with color spikes (or dropouts) like Kinos and LEDs have.

The trade off of course is the amount of power needed for quantity of photons produced.

Hey Taj,

The Kino Diva tubes can very readily skew towards magenta, particularly when you dim them. And only the very latest and most expensive LED technology really come close to matching actual tungsten/halogen globes like the bulbs found in your Dedos (though not so much once you add gels, as LED has a discontinuous spectrum).

Any Arri tungsten lights will match the halogen lamps in your Dedos as they're both incandescent bulbs.

So far as getting fluorescent or LED lights to match, you need to look at units like the new Mole LED fresnels, or Cineo or BBS remote phosphor LED lighting. Or get lucky and pick a good batch of fluorescent tubes (and then not dim them).

Tungsten is tungsten - so yes the Arris will match the Dedos DLH-4 150s, but fresnels won't be as controllable in terms of clean barndoors, zoom range or flat field as the Dedo 650.

That's not to say Arri 650s aren't controllable - they're still great very usable lights. I'd probably favour two Arri 650s over a single Dedo 650.

Check you're using the Diva 401 in the correct orientation - the single ended tubes need to have one end ( without one in front of me, I think it's the cable end - although new units have this written on the fixture! ) below the other end to avoid a magenta shift (so slightly tilted down at the cable end even in horizontal mode). Also avoid using the dimmer below about 50-60% - better used as a fast fine finesse. Use ND or distance to adjust coarse exposure instead, as dimming more than about half also biases towards magenta.

I have the same Dedo DLH-4's. Wonderful lights. Have run into the same issues matching to other fluorescents such as the ARRI Studio Cools.

However, the Dedo's complement the ARRI 300 and 650 fresnels. Compared to the ARRI fixtures, the Dedo's boast superior optics.

If you have the cash, the extra investment will pay off in the long run. Added advantage of the Dedo's is that you can mount accessories such as a pattern projector for gobo's or an iris. That feature is why I keep them in the inventory...

Thank you guys for all your responses. I am always learning something new here and I truly appreciate the time you guys took to post and help me out.
That dedo 650 is sooo tempting... but for the price, I can buy two Arri 650's. Arrrggghh, decisions.... decisions....
