  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mark Toia . - WHY RED

Which ones? They ones at 1:00, the ones at 1:50, or the slight one at 3:30?

The first two instances seem deliberate, with them being pretty front and center, the third one seemed accidental.

lol, definitely talking about the chick.

Holden Commodore commercial, and somebody that actually knows his to color grade. :)

"You can't argue the science, even though many people luv to try" Lol! They sure do. Logically unstable individuals. I love Mark's approach, these are the things I identified up to 20 years ago, but soon much more. I was interested in things like the extra wide monstro sensor years ago, because you start to be able to electronically pan and zoom. But if you had 16k-24k operating over 120-180 degrees you start to be able to do a lot of this in 8k, or in 8k-12k in 4k, or 4k-6k in 2k (or 8k with oversampling). But this configuration has limited usefulness compared to three 60-120 degree cameras in an arc also giving 3D napping (based on a 1980's 3D proposal). Giving six to nine cameras you can find the best angle. So, there is a Kong way to go in the science, that people just can't get their heads around. They can't even seem to accept that 21+stops is useful, which Mark also wants.

I saw a documentary on a clearance Panasonic DX900u I was trying to talk a salesman down on price today (way down). It was something to do with locusts in Africa, shooting on Red cameras. They were using some cheap camera that looked lifeless dull, making the Red buttons look pink (surely couldn't he an old Sony HC1). But when they switched to the Red slow motion footage of the locusts, the display came to life with color, depth, contrast, resolution. By those cheap cameras are rubbish, 10x worse. If it had been other brand name sets it probably wouldn't Gabe been do obvious how bad the cheap camera was compared to Red, as they try to push up the color brightness and contrast a bit. Got to respect Panasonic for that too. But. We really need that Red camera phone to replace all these cheap crappy prosumer cameras (hopefully with helium+ sensor).

If you are hired to do a studio feature then maybe they rent you an Arri. If you have no budget or are just starting out maybe you buy a GH5 or BM camera. If you are a serious shooter who needs to do lots of different thing in different ways and needs a pro camera that can do everything then you buy a RED. Simple.

If you guys think Toia does anything by accident, your nuts! LOL :)

That is hands down the best reel I've ever seen. The VO, keeps you interested and brings it all together. I love this.

Nip slip?

Didn't see that, was looking at the camera gear...

Just Kidding!

But seriously, someone should hire this guy to make commercials or something.

This is so good—the images, the colors, the words—and the editing flows so well.

Mark, you truly have a gift for narration.

Spectacular....

But, that's what Mark does. Didn't you guys see the last video?
