Talking about finding things on this forum.
I have noticed that search is not accepting AND or OR operands.
Also search doesn't accept quoted literals like “something”

Does anybody know if there is a way to search with operands on this forum?

Does a customized google search on reduser.net and red.com.

Hi Ian,

It's quite possible that I haven't fully come to understand the structure of these forums.

Just yesterday I did see the crucial ordinance thread, but I didn't go through it (I will do it now, though). I think the reason for that was that I have been through a couple of "stickies" that I felt weren't up to date.

Stickies are normally great, but they are rarely the place where you find the most current information. I also think that's the reason why most other forums I frequent try to keep the normal threads as clean from "off topic" as possible, and then provide a strictly social part of the forum.

I agree that chatter is inevitable in such as social place as you describe, and it is most likely a good thing, but I would argue that where that chatter takes place is a question of structure.

Nonetheless... heading over to Crucial Ordinance now

Having read this forum for years, I learned there are no "facts" in the forums - just discussion and occasional "here's where we are... for now..." kinds of posts. Big announcements usually have a dedicated thread, usually started by Jim or Jarred, and everything they wish to share about something is in that announcement. What follows is usually a lot of questions and comments about a lot of stuff, usually unrelated, congratulatory or inquiries regarding things that aren't relevant or not going to be answered anyway (usually due to trade secret level of detail type stuff or shipping dates). Occasionally the conversation will swing into useful tips or tricks or maybe a little more detail on a feature or similar, but you aren't really missing anything.

Other than Crucial Ordnance, one thing that helped me cut through the clutter is to click on Jannard (or whomever), name in the post and then click "show other posts by" (something to that effect) and you can see what that person posted recently. That's usually good enough to get a sense of where things are in a discussion. Also, the longer a thread, the less content it has as it will have devolved into a conversation between a few people. For example, this post about shipping number 7 is now about cutting through the clutter of the forum. Not really relevant to the original post. If you skim the first 4 or 5 pages, you have probably hit most of the value of a topic.

We appreciate everyone's guessing what's inside a brain, but trust me when I tell you that you have no reference point for comparison.

Jim

Would you consider posting some interior shots at some point Jim?..maybe nothing to give the game away but enough to give us an idea?

Hi Detlev

To which posts do you refer?

... well, i guess every post that treats RED like school kids not knowing what they do .... (although they say so often) ... is a good starter.

These people are pro.

Sometimes, it is a personality thing.

We´ve got some barking dogs and moaning cats, some muses and some poets ...

... a nice crowd! i´d say ...

To pull focused knowledge or concise information from a particular thread though,
is often daunting, time consuming, distracting ...

... often, people do just not read through the thread ... post double, ask same questions ... marvel on themselves without relation to the topic at hand .... respond with opinionated songs from a long gone past ...

These kind of things.

It would just be nice, to have a way, to personalize the experience,
that everyone has on this board ... without taking away something from the other ...

:sifone:

I would not in any way want to suggest, to take away the community feeling of this board - i think it is quite unique, original and a great place to be on the net!

We have access to some pretty cool and amazing people.
I would hate to see this quality disappear ... especially with the expected growth of this forum in 2011.

I propose a little bit of responsibility and respect - instead of using it as a shout box for everything.
Guess, it is in our hands to set some quality standards for the future and protect what we value so much.

We are sending you EPIC-M #00007 " BOND " today..... AND Melvin.

Enjoy..

Is the big bloke for security? to make sure Mark doesn't walk off with the camera?

...but I guess its to make sure NO ONE ELSE walks off with an EPIC. Bring on those EPIC rustlers, RED & Mark are ready for a rematch!

I think an option for each thread that is a checkbox that says "filter for Red" that then only shows what someone from Red posts would be great. That way you have the option of reading everything, or just getting the comments made by someone at Red. Usually their comments are a reply to someone else and have the context in them so that would neatly summarize that information. When I read through "posts by Jim" by clicking his name, I sometimes can't see the context so I have to select the posts to read them.

Good idea...

Fantastic idea... right now I've got bookmarks for specific searches for Jim, Jarred and other members of the team. This would much simplify getting down to the details.

ok let me put my code hat on again.. been awhile so if everything goes to shit forgive me :)
