Is it possible to send one mic to channel 1&2 and set the pre-amps on each one differently? I thought this could be done.

Yes, it can be done.

As Bob suggests we use a splitter cable to do this, we had it made with a pad on one of the channels. Tony can you mention how to do it camera please ?

Before going nuts with a splitter cable, be advised that if your mic requires phantom power, it's slightly more complicated. But if you don't need phantom power, split away!

I thought I did this in software before but I can't find the option. Did something change in the firmware?

My bad. I didn't know Eugene was talking about In-camera...

Logic wouldn't permit it. A slitter cable does. I use one regularly, ironically from a cable I had handmade for a DSLR 5 years ago. I double record through a tascam with wireless and headphone out to the 1+2 ports at the front of my cam. Works a treat and in most situations, completely happy with the audio in camera.

In short, find a good audio company and for about 70 bucks, they should be able to do the proper wiring.

For the record, there are cameras that have done this - I think my JVC HD-110 had this capability. Never possible on RED that I can recall.
