Has anyone been able to configure their mantis with a counter balance on it?

My best guess is to use 24 inch rails with a battery at the very back.

I've been working on this too, and it seems the red drive AND battery (in the cradle) get the camera balanced for me with 12" rods off the back. I was doing this with the 24" rods, and that worked fine, but I'm now using 3" rods in the front with a universal mount for the LCD arm. This allows me to keep that section on if I need to remove the back rods for when I need to film inside a tight space like a car (for this I'm using CF cards and the battery belt clip).

Here's a picture (I don't have the drive in the cradle here):

Hey guys,

I'm considering buying a mantis... How do you like yours? Would you recommend it? With other accessories and which?

Also, do you think it is still a good purchase with the upcoming Epic?

Thanks for your advice...

I'm really enjoying the mantis. You'll need the bridge plate, either by Element Technica or Red.

From the ET site:
"Fully compatible with the RED One of today, as well as the Scarlett and Epic of tomorrow."

You can also get a female V lock assembly and attach it to the rear shoulder pad of the mantis. Then attach your battery there. That puts the counterbalance weight lower and right behind your shoulder. Works great.
