This might be worth a look. It is from SGO, the people that make Mistika. (A big buck compositing /color correction / finishing program ... just ask Peter Jackson.) They have a free eval. download.

I just watched the tutorials and it seems pretty darn powerful for the price: 239 Euros for the base package and then there are various optional components, like unlimited render resolutions for another 190 Euros and a RED Camera plug-in for 49 Euros ... even a DCP plug-in (for 1,900 Euros ... ouch). It will also accept standard OFX plug-ins, but there is no support for SDI output.

I know DaVinci lite is free. But, for 480 Euros or about $650.00, (for the base package-w-unlimited rendering and RED support), I am wondering if this could be a viable alternative to the full blown DaVinci Resolve? Just a thought.

MambaFX is a compositing program. Resolve is a color grading program. Those are two completely different things. Comparing them is like comparing Nuke to Premiere Pro. They are two completely different programs with two completely different purposes.

True. But, from the tutorial that I just watched, it seems that Mamba does, in fact, have some degree of color correction functionality ... along with keying, tracking, painting, restoration and 3D. You are the expert. I'm not. Real Simple. I am just wondering how much "more" color grading functionality that Resolve has for the money.

I'm primaraly a colorist, but as i come to that from through VFX i drive Nuke, Fusion and a few others, been running Mamba for a few months now

I would never consider it a colortiming tool set, there is zero timeline, EDL/AAF/XML support to start...

Mlles and lightyears faster than Nuke, uses the same engine as Mystika, in terms of RT preformance it's closer to Flame if you have the machine underneath it (z820/K5000/fast disk array) - realtime rolling shutter fixer for example, compare to Nuke taking 4hrs to render the same shot with it's rolling shutter fixer full out... and Mamba's was better (in 22 seconds)

In terms of tools it's stll has a few bits missing ( cloud tracker, 3D object import, multi-layer EXR to start) but development is running full tilt... cloud tracker will arrive very soon....

co-exists nicely with Resolve, if you have a second port on your video card it will output to a broadcast mon through that
