Hi

I wish to create a playable PAL DVD of my film. The film was shot at 24fps, and has been exported as a 24fps mov.

When i put it into Compressor, and use the "DVD:Best quality 90mins" pre set, the video format reads "NTSC" and the frame rate reads "23.98" or "29.97"

If i change the Video format to "PAL", I am unable to change the frame rate from 25.

this is my first time working with 24fps footage, and my suspicion (though i can't find anything that will confirm it) is that perhaps you have to convert everything to either 23.98, 29.97, or 25 to put on a DVD.

Perhaps someone can advise me whether this is the case, and if not, how i can create a 24fps DVD.

thanks in advance!

Do you definitely need it to be PAL? All European DVD players will play NTSC DVDs, so you could just master the DVD at 23.98fps NTSC. I don't think the DVD specs allow true 24p, but as long as you make sure audio sync is correct it does not matter.

Otherwise use Cinema Tools to conform the time-base of (a copy of) your movie to 25fps. I would recommend using separate audio software to re-time the audio with pitch correction if you go this route. Soundtrack Pro can do it, although Pro Tools does a better job.
