The latest builds of Red One have made quite some improvements to the quality of the footage that comes out of it (talking M sensor here). Good that Red keeps improving number One while working on new gear. Which got me thinking.. would it be technically possible to make magic motion available in a future build for Red One as well?

I remember that Jim said no in another thread.

You need HDRx™ in order to achieve magic motion. The Red One hardware can't handle it.

MagicMotion/HDRx are only possible on the MX sensor, if I understood Jim correctly, because it was constructed for that.

That will still not be possible with the R1 MX, unless you replace the computing unit behind the MX sensor with something like an Epic/Scarelet... -;)

I'm sure they'll figure something out. I'll give it 4 months and then it will be a post-feature in Redcine x build 3015 :)

I am far from unhappy with the m sensor, still love it. Especially on the latest builds. It's just one can get greedy for no reason.

I actually really like a well exposed M image a lot, too -:)

MX is great. Main thing to remember is that even though the box looks the same, they are different. Different is good!

The HDRx™ and magic Motion technologies require additional computing capability, as others have noted.

There is no reason to think RED couldn't enable these features... but it would require sending the camera back to RED for a hardware upgrade.

I bet that most RED ONE owners would be willing to pay $1000 to give their camera HDR capability, like the most recent upgrade on the Scarlet design.

Yeah... well I'd expect it to be a $5500 upgrade, just like replacing a defective logic board in the RED One.

In other words... get a Scarlet/Epic
