  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Mad Child Music Video. Epic-M

Thats off the hook.

Exactly how low is low budget? just curious. looks great man.

Totally amazing. Dark, and twisted. But amazing. The middle section with the skull paint was pretty on point and awesome. So was the intro with him "peeking". You used the RPP 18 a lot right?

Great, great job.

The edit is terrific, too.

Yah almost all the close ups were shot on the 18 or 25mm, we wanted his movement and face to be exaggerated.

This is extremely well done across the board - you are very talented, period, and you have done your homework.

BUT...

1 - Do you realize that by casting the rapper (who is identified as cool and cutting-edge by default) as a serial killer you are basically saying it is cool and edgy to be a serial killer? If you think no troubled people will be pushed past the edge by this you may be wrong. Someone could get hurt because of your video - maybe several people. That doesn't bother you? I'm not for heavy handed censorship, but the video is a full-on sales pitch to young people about the joys of brutalizing women. It makes a strong, extremely anti-social statement that many will find convincing, they will want to be "cool" like your rapper. Maybe you didn't think about this. Maybe you did and don't care, but if you don't care that actually means you are a sociopath by definition (sociopaths are just people who don't care about the suffering of others - most are not killers and many are not actual criminals, but they all nonetheless basically define evil) I hope you do care, and think about that next time.

2 - Don't advertise low price - keep it to yourself. You are talented enough you don't need low prices to define you. Low prices will not help you, and it destroys the ability of your colleagues to survive. You want to do $3500 videos for the rest of your life? Then keep telling people it cost $3500. When they have $100 000, they'll call the $100 000 guy, when they have $3500 agin they'll call you. It's that simple. Oh... And start charging more.

Of course I would never condone or ever want some to act like the character in this video and that was never the intention. The concept was to create a character like Hannibal Lecter that would frighten people rather then have them think that what he was doing is "cool". We purposely never showed any torture, or blood or anything like that.

As for the price, my brother and I are just out of film school and no one wants to pay for a young, not very experience DOP, even if you know what your doing. I think everyone wishes they could charge more and hopefully I'll be able to in the near future.

Rob I have to commend you. I had thought long and hard about the theme of the video too, but didn't have the language or temperament to mention it effectively. I want to be supportive, the video is visually terrific, but it's also important that the content/theme be addressed. Thanks.
