Hi Everyone,

I have some footage on a red drive which is playable and viewable from the camera. However when i connect the drive to my computer the computer does not recognise the drive.

I have tried using redundead but this doesnt recover the files.

Any ideas on what i can do?

Thanks

Tunji

What kind of cable are you connecting it to the computer with? Trying a different cable might help.

And don't forget to use the external power adapter!

external power adapter is a must. that double drive takes a lot of power, more power than firewire has any business providing.

AND lots of standard 12 volt power adapters don't supply enough current to spin up the drives. Use the Red standard ones or one with some decent amperage.

I had/have this problem as well, but only on the Mac. IIRC if I format it on the Mac as PC then use it it seems to work fine, but if I initialize it on the Red it won't read. I may be wrong on this though.

Red said to send it back and they will fix it, out I haven't ha a chance with recent events to get it back to them. Perhaps this week I can get it over there and turned around.

ive tried everything, power adaptors plugged in, tried FW800, FW400 and usb. Sometimes i can see the drive using disk utility but not on finder.

thinking of formatting the drive then trying to recover it using redundead

Hello Tunji,

Have you tired contacting RED Support? Are you able to try connecting the drive to another computer? I would recommend contacting your Bomb Squad Rep we might be able to trouble shoot with you or set up a RMA to get the drive in here for possible recovery and repair.

Regards,

If you can see it with Disk Utility, can you force it to mount from with in Disk Utility?

Can you make a disk image of it?

Do not format it, or you will have no luck getting anything off it. Michael Keegan is right, contact Red support.

I'd recommend contacting support. If you can see it on the camera, we might be able to get the footage off.

Have you tried using redundead using usb?

What are the specs of your Mac?
