  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Macrumors: New Mac 5K displays --coming soon?

Hope a display comes out of this one :)

It's this monitor here. Apple will use the same panel...

Matt is that right?

Whats the hertz on that Dell?

I know that I'm letting the team down - but sometimes I just can't keep up...

Will the current MacPro drive this? Will apple have to revise the MacPro to include display port 1.3 or TB3? If new hardware is needed how do you shoehorn it into the trashcan - or do you have to buy a new trashcan? Kind of glad I stayed with the cheesegrater, while they worked out the kinks...

I know it's all probably speculation at this point - but maybe someone more plugged in can clear some of the foG?

I am hoping that if the current new Mac Pro can drive three 4K displays then I would think it can handle a single 5K.

Again, I am hoping :)

In case anyone is wondering about a 5K iMac, it's not coming any time soon. That requires another update for eDP (embedded DisplayPort), which is what is now used in laptops/AIO/tablets to connect GPUs to panels. That will likely happen around 2016.

Thunderbolt will be an advantage here, I presume. In a worst case scenario for the current generation MacPro, you may have to run 2 TB cables to two distinct busses, like the dual-link DVI days of old... But if the nMP can handle 3x4K displays, it should be able to handle 2x5K, right??

Thunderbolt 3 will certainly help this out, with it's next jump to 40Mb/s thru-put. But that is not supposed to see release until later in 2015.
