I have a MacBook Pro Retina 13in, 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel Iris 1536 MB from summer last year and i was wondering if this was good to work with 4K files from the R1MX. I have Adobe Premiere CS6 and FCPX to cut with. I'm aware that you cant upgrade the ram on the new macs which is a real bummer.

CS6 will struggle with 4K on that gfx card. Fcpx has proxy built in for performance/quality so that might work. There are some R3D files around here somewhere for you to bench.

Either way, you machine will have some trouble overall once you start stacking things a bit.

They only sell the new 15" MBP's with 16GB, which is the maximum the hardware can support anyway. We can thank Intel for this, it's not an Apple problem. So the non-upgradeable RAM is really not an issue. But yeah, too bad you can't upgrade your 8GB to 16GB.

Not having a discreet GPU is going to affect performance with the 13" MBP. That said, FCPX still runs well on them and CS6 isn't too bad either. They will handle R1MX clips alright. I've cut many Red One projects on lesser notebooks back in the day when even the best notebooks weren't as good as your 13 inch. R1MX 4K clips are not all that demanding by today's standards.

You'll want to attach to a decently quick external RAID for workspace storage, that will help more than anything. That goes for any notebook...
