Hey everybody, give Chandra a break. With FCS, that's a $4,000 "portable solution" all ready to go for people who might rent our cameras but don't have the MBP with FCP.
At 12.5% of total value, $500 a week is comprable to what people are getting "per value" for Red rentals. Just think how long it would take someone in a pinch to go buy a MacBook at an Apple Store, set it all up, load FCS (heck that could take a couple hours) download RedCine and RedAlert and make sure everything works together. Keep in mind you can't even buy a 4GB MacBook Pro last minute.
I personally think this kind of entrepreneurship is what's needed in the Red community (just like small towns need dentists and plumbers). People would think nothing of paying $500 a week for a good set of sticks and fluid head nor would anyone complain about a rental post about it but this is a new digital age and these are the types of packages that will make it easier to rent our core camera packages. I know if someone wanted to rent my RED ONE and asked me to let them bang my MacBook Pro around in the field for a week, I'd want at least $500 extra bucks.
