I'm trying to wrap my head around a concept that I know, but I don't have definite numbers for. So I recently bought a new Macbook Pro, and instead of buying the 2018, I opted for the 2016.
2018
2.6, Six-Core i7, 32GB RAM, 560X GPU, 512gb HD
2016
2.9, Quad-Core i7, 16GB RAM, 460 AMD GPU, 2TB HD
Aside from the price difference the real kicker for me was that I do a lot of short pieces, all of which are less than 2TB of data. So my choice really came down to a much more powerful computer, editing off of externals, or a less powerful computer, editing internally.
My real question here: Where is the data pinch point when editing off of external hard drives? Obviously it's different when editing off a RAID, or SSD, or mechanical, so at what point along that quality chain does the processing power bottleneck against your external hard drive choice?
I'm sure this question has been covered a hundred times but as great as all the info on Reduser is, the search functionality sometimes leaves it hard to find. Thanks for the info.
